Sir Walter Reconsiders his Crusades on Mars, 48X37"
The idea behind these triptyches is to solve certain problems.
- Make multiple, completely different subjects work together as a whole.
- Push to the very edge of aesthetic complexity without crossing over.
- Push color to the very edge.
- Make decay beautiful.
- Demonstrate that patterns repeat from microscopic to infinite.
- Introduce a hint of narrative (I am a writer, after all).
- Do it all with two obtrusive lines passing through the canvasses.
- Create panels that work together but could work independently.
In this case, I use three different images in different panels and use color and pattern to tie them together.
The bottom right panel could be some kind of knight. The top panel might be his memories, and the left panel
might be the tools of his trade decaying in a castle closet somewhere.
